As they have nearly every year for more than a century, members of the Audubon Society of Kentucky will head out Saturday for their Christmas Bird Count. Members, as well as anyone wishing to join them, will meet at 7 a.m. at the Denny's at 1949 Nicholasville Road.
They will count birds within a 15-mile circle that centers on the community of East Hickman on Tates Creek Road. The National Audubon Society began the annual count in 1900. The first count in Lexington was in 1901. A few years might have been missed during World War II, but it otherwise has been held regardless of the weather.
