Just two days before Christmas, residents of a Richmond apartment complex off were displaced after a Tuesday morning fire.
Eleven units and an office were damaged by either the fire, smoke and water at 138 South Killarney Lane.
Code enforcement officials deemed the apartments uninhabitable and the Red Cross arranged for hotels and food vouchers to people displaced, Richmond Fire Department spokesman Corey Lewis said.
The fire was reported about 10:20 a.m. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control, but fire continue in parts of the attic, he said.
Some media quoted residents saying the fire was started accidentally by a child playing with fire.
Lewis said Richmond Fire investigators are looking for a cause.
"We don't know what caused it at this point," he said.
