A power outage left much of downtown Lexington in the dark for a few hours Saturday morning.
A bad switch at the substation on Vine Street left 8,500 customers without power from 8:20 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., said Kentucky Utilities spokesman Cliff Feltham.

The outage stretched from the Ashland neighborhood down Main Street as far as the Lexington Cemetery and from Third or Fourth streets across to Maxwell Street.
Police helped direct traffic because street lights were not working, Feltham said. Feltham said he was thankful the outage occurred in the morning, so it didn't interfere with traffic from the University of Kentucky basketball game in the afternoon.
"It came at probably the best time that it could've come," he said.
