Fayette County Public Schools called off Friday classes because of the bitterly cold weather expected to sweep through Central Kentucky.
Other districts, such as Scott County, also announced on Thursday afternoon that they would close Friday.
School officials released a statement saying that "due to a weather forecast ... that includes temperatures below zero and a wind chill approaching negative teens, there will be no school for Fayette County Public Schools students" on Friday.
The system has missed only one day for snow so far this winter.
In addition, Madison and Woodford County schools in Central Kentucky will not be open Friday.
