Traffic has returned to normal on Harrodsburg Road following a gas main rupture that shut down several lanes between New Circle Road and Man o' War Boulevard late Tuesday afternoon.
An electrical contractor putting up a utility pole hit a four-inch medium-pressure main line just before 4 p.m., causing gas to spew up into the air, said Lisa Smith, communications manager for Columbia Gas of Kentucky.
She said the gas was shut off just before 6 p.m. and all lanes reopened at about 6:30 p.m.
Smith said Columbia did not expect any customers to lose service as a result of the break.
