Ryan, a junior and a member of the West Jessamine soccer team, became ill after practice a week ago. He was taken to the emergency room last Saturday, then transferred to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and an infection involving the drug-resistant form of Staphylococcus aureus bacterium, commonly known as MRSA.
He died at the hospital Tuesday morning after machines keeping him alive were turned off.
