Staff, wire report

March 18, 2009 06:22 PM

State officials said two inmates at the Kentucky State Reformatory have been charged in an assault on a guard on Monday.

Lisa Lamb, spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections, said 29-year-old Clifford Taylor and 31-year-old Shawn Thacker were each charged with third-degree assault and will probably face administrative charges in Monday’s assault.

Lamb said in a news release that Robert Sharp was assaulted while he was on his normal evening rounds. She says Sharp was treated for minor injuries at Baptist Hospital Northeast and released. Both prisoners were considered medium-security.

Taylor is serving a life sentence for charges out of Whitley County that include robbery, murder and arson, and Thacker is serving a 45-year sentence out of Jefferson, Bullitt and Hardin counties for robbery, burglary, trafficking and being a persistent felony offender.
