Lexington high schoolers competed in the FIRST Robotics regional competition at Purdue University last weekend.
The Lexington team, made up of students from Paul Laurence and Henry Clay high schools, came in 23rd out of 35 teams, earning a trophy as the highest-seed rookie team in the regional.
The Lexington group also received the Rookie Inspiration Award.
The event required students to build their own motorized robots and then face off in direct competition to score points. It was the first time that Fayette County Schools students have participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition, which is sponsored by Dean Kamen, creator of the Segway scooter.
