It could have been death by McChicken for one northeastern Kentucky man.
Instead, a pair of former McDonald's employees who were having an affair are in court this week after authorities say they laced the woman's husband's chicken sandwich with rat poison.
Chris Stephens, who worked at the Olive Hill McDonald's, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to commit assault. The charge was amended down from conspiracy to commit murder.
The woman with whom Stephens was having an affair, Patricia Renee Valandingham, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Her trial began Tuesday.
The pair is accused of putting rat poison on Valandingham's husband's McChicken sandwich in January 2008. Police say a fellow employee who worked with them saw what was going on and intervened before Brent Valandingham got the sandwich.
