An 83-year-old Knott County man died Tuesday afternoon after he tried to extinguish a brush fire near his home, the coroner said.
Woodrow Gibson of Emmalena, about five miles outside Hindman, was burning a brush pile when the fire got out of control, Knott County Coroner Jeff Blair said. Blair said Gibson's clothes caught fire.
Gibson died at the scene about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The coroner said the cause of death has not been determined.
