Lexington firefighters were trying to determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a home on the city's south side early Monday morning.
Units were dispatched to the scene on East Edgebrook Drive just after 2 a.m., after residents were awakened by a smoke alarm going off.
The fire apparently started in a garage, then quickly spread to the upstairs of the home, firefighters said.
The heat was so intense that firefighters battling the blaze had to pull back out of the building at one point.
