A case of drug-resistant staph has been confirmed at Eastern Kentucky University's Model Laboratory School in Richmond.
The school learned late in the day Monday that a student had been infected with MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, said James Dantic, director of the school.
Dantic said the school sent a letter home with classmates of the student on Monday. He said the school plans to send a letter home to other parents Tuesday.
Dantic declined to say the grade of the infected student. Model teaches pre-kindergarteners through 12th-graders.

After learning of the situation, Dantic said school officials consulted with the health department and cleaned areas where the student had been.
"We follow the protocols for proper sanitation," he said.
