Human remains found in Pike County prompted a Kentucky State Police investigation.
A resident spotted the skeletal remains Thursday in woods in the county's Ridgeline Road area, according to the Pikeville state police post.
Dr. Emily Craig, a forensic anthropologist with the state medical examiner's office, was called to assist investigators who worked the scene through most of the day Thursday, troopers said.
The remains have been removed for further examination, and officials are trying to make an identification, police said.
