The Kentucky Blood Center will announce Wednesday a new blood-donor center to open in Lexington. The center's equipment will be paid for with $238,000 from the federal government. KBC now has donor centers at its headquarters, 3120 Beaumont Centre Circle, and in Pikeville and Somerset. "We have been in existence for 41 years, and this will be the first time we have had more than one donor center operating in Lexington at one time," KBC spokesman Jim Tinker said. The center collects more than half of its donations during mobile blood drives, Tinker said. KBC serves about 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics in more than 60 counties.
