Whitcomb asked Buchanan to step out of the car to talk. Buchanan then ducked into the car, came back out and ran through the parking lot toward Winburn Drive. During the subsequent chase, Buchanan fired multiple shots at Whitcomb, one of which hit the officer in the shoulder, Brotherton said.
The driver of the car, whom Whitcomb identified as Mayberry, ran away during the chase, Brotherton testified.
