A 66-year-old man was listed in critical condition Monday night after his pickup struck him as he was trying to get the stalled vehicle started again on East New Circle Road about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Lexington police said Reid Smallwood had opened the hood to the 1990 Ford F-150 that he had been driving when the vehicle restarted and struck him because it was in gear.
Smallwood was taken from the scene near Eastland Parkway to University of Kentucky Hospital.
Police closed the ramps from Winchester Road to New Circle Road for a couple of hours after the incident.
