Lexington house fire victim died of smoke inhalation, burns

Smoke inhalation and thermal injuries appear to be the cause of death for a Lexington man who died in a house fire Monday, according to preliminary autopsy results from the Fayette County coroner's office.

Firefighters found Leslie J. Burns Jr. just inside the front door of his house at 336 Hollyhill Drive on Monday morning. He was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m. at University of Kentucky Hospital, according to the coroner's office.

The fire appeared to have started in a rear hallway. Investigators haven't determined a cause of the fire.

Burns' house had been scheduled to be sold at noon Monday as part of foreclosure action filed in Fayette Circuit Court.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Milward Funeral Home.
