A Knox County man died Tuesday after his motorcycle collided with a backhoe, state police said.
Carl Niccum Jr., 23, of Barbourville was flown by helicopter to the University of Tennessee after the wreck, but was pronounced dead there at 2:09 p.m., state police said in a news release.
Niccum was traveling north on KY 225 on a Yamaha R6 when he tried to pass a backhoe from behind. The backhoe was trying to turn left, and Niccum hit the left front side. He was thrown from his motorcycle, police said.
The operator of the backhoe, 44-year-old Earnest Sowders of Artemus, was not injured.
