Versailles and Woodford County received money Tuesday to improve wastewater treatment and for communications among first-responders.
Gov. Steve Beshear awarded a ceremonial check for $1.3 million to the city of Versailles for a sewer disinfection conversion project and general wastewater improvements that were included in the biennial budget passed by the General Assembly.
Versailles also received $189,000 from the Homeland Security grant program. The grant is to buy radios for the Versailles Police Department, the Versailles Fire Department, the Midway Fire Department, the Woodford County Fire Department and Woodford County Emergency Medical Services.
The new radios will enhance communications among first-response units in Woodford County, for more efficient coordination during emergencies.
