NICHOLASVILLE — A minor fire in a men's restroom at East Jessamine High School is being investigated as arson, said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Baker.
No one was injured, and the fire was quickly extinguished by a janitor, but it took about two hours to ventilate smoke from the building, Baker said. Students and staff were evacuated after the fire was reported at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Baker said the Nicholasville Arson Task Force is looking into the fire, which involved a piece of paper burning in a trash can and a paper towel dispenser in an upstairs restroom on the school's east side.
"The fire itself was not that intense, but it put a lot of smoke in the air," Baker said. "Some person or persons did this intentionally."
