Harold H. Smith, the former president of Pikeville College, is the new president of the Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program Foundation.
The foundation is a non-profit organization that raises private donations to support the Governor's Scholars Program. The two organizations are separate.
Smith, who was named to the foundation post last week, retired from Pikeville College in December 2008 after nearly a decade.
Founded in 1983, the Governor's Scholars Program each year allows about 1,000 high-performing Kentucky high school seniors to spend five weeks studying and living on a college campus. Smith is 1964 graduate of Centre College. He served as Centre's dean of admissions, and also was vice president of development at Ohio's Muskingum College.
