William "Bill" Farmer has been selected president and chief executive officer of United Way of the Bluegrass. The charitable organization's board of directors unanimously approved Farmer's selection. He is to start work Oct. 5.
"Bill has excellent leadership and management skills, a heart and passion for creating a better community, and an expertise in collaboration that make him the ideal leader for United Way of the Bluegrass," board chairman Harry Richart III said.
Farmer has been president and chief executive officer of The Farmer Group, a consulting firm that assists business and non-profit organizations, since 2008.
He previously was vice president of corporate development for Time Warner Cable's corporate, regional and media sales operations in the Carolinas.

He also is a former president and CEO of Time Warner Cable's Mississippi and north central Louisiana operations.
While at Time Warner Cable, he dealt with issues involving education, economic development, workforce development, housing, health care, transportation and diversity.
He was one of more than 150 candidates for the United Way of the Bluegrass job.
