Kentucky man admits role in $200,000 bank robbery

A Slemp man admitted in federal court Thursday that he helped steal more than $200,000 from a bank in Annville more than five years ago.

Randy Lee Ryan Gilliam, 22, pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery involving kidnapping and use of a firearm during a crime of violence, according to a release from United States Attorney James A. Zerhusen's office.

According to the release, Gilliam admitted that in June of 2004 he and codefendant Kevin Michael Green threatened bank employees at gunpoint and ordered the bank safe opened. The plea agreement also says that Michael Ray Gilliam, Randy Gilliam's uncle, drove a getaway car.

Also, according to the release, Randy Gilliam helped the same two codefendants attempt to rob a Leslie County Bank in 2007.

Sentencing for Randy Gilliam is scheduled for Jan. 14.
