A Stanton man drowned Sunday after slipping from the bank of a Powell County pay lake, authorities said.
Marcos Antonio Perez, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene, Powell County Coroner Carl Wells said.
Perez was fishing at Skyview Lake off Paint Creek Road north of Stanton, said conservation officer Chad Rice of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Rice described the body of water as a pond created by an earthen dam.
"He'd caught a fish and was bending over to get the fish and just slipped and fell in," Rice said. "Where he was at, it was probably 20, 25 feet deep."

A brother jumped in to try to save Perez, "but he just sunk right straight to the bottom," Rice said. Perez had breathing problems and might have been asthmatic, Rice said.
The body was recovered after dragging the lake for more than an hour, Rice said.
The accident was reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday; the body was recovered about 7:10 p.m., Rice said.
