Don't play in the fountains, city says

The public pools have closed, and now the city is telling people to stay out of the fountains downtown too.

The city plans to install signs alerting people that the fountains at Thoroughbred Park and Phoenix Park are off-limits for swimming or wading.

"The water isn't disinfected, so any viruses or bacteria that wash off someone playing or bathing in the water can come into contact with casual users, possibly making them sick," Dr. Melinda Rowe, health commissioner for Fayette County, said in a press release.
