A Kenton County woman was killed Tuesday morning when a historical rowhouse burned in Covington.
Firefighters were called about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday to the fire on Russell Avenue, Covington Fire Chief Mark Young said. The building was divided into four apartment units.
A man was on the second-floor patio roof when crews arrived. When firefighters got to the roof, the man told them that his wife was inside the building, Young said.
Firefighters found the man's wife hanging out a second-floor window, Young said. As crews tried to rescue her, the fire raced up the side of the building and the woman went back inside, Young said.
The crews later found the woman dead inside the building, Young said. She has not been identified pending the notification of relatives.
It took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the blaze, Young said. Investigators were working Tuesday morning to determine the cause and origin.
