Defense attorneys for three men scheduled to go to trial in January on bid tampering charges want the trial moved to Covington.
Lawyers for road contractor Leonard Lawson, Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert and Brian Billings, a Lawson employee, filed a motion Wednesday asking for the Jan. 11 trial to be moved from Lexington to Northern Kentucky.
The defense attorneys argue that the Herald-Leader's coverage of the case has tainted a potential jury pool.
Lawson, Nighbert and Billings are charged in relation to an alleged scheme to obtain internal Transportation Cabinet estimates on road projects that Lawson's companies were set to bid on and then trying to cover up the conspiracy.
