The University of Kentucky will hire a law firm to review its relationship with the Lexington Center Corp. and private developers to make sure its agreements are all legal before moving forward on a new basketball arena, the university announced Wednesday.
UK is considering building a new 24,000-seat basketball arena and parking structure to replace the existing Rupp Arena, which is part of the Lexington convention center complex.
UK also will hire a consultant to study the feasibility of construction of renovations to Commonwealth Stadium and a new baseball stadium, as well as reviewing funding for both projects. UK is aiming to pay for the projects with private donations.
The university expects to sign contracts with the firms within the next few weeks.
