A Letcher County man was in critical condition Thursday after he was shot in the head.
Kentucky State Police received a call shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday that there had been a shooting on Susan Cook Drive in Whitesburg, according to a news release.
Paul Richard Fields had been shot once in the head by a small-caliber rifle, police said. He was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
James Edward Nichols was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, three counts of wanton endangerment and being a felon in possession of a handgun. He was being held in the Letcher County jail.
