Lexington officer is struck by car during traffic stop; 2 arrested

Lexington police have arrested a man who they say hit an officer with the car he was driving.

Police said Officer Tyler Trippe made a traffic stop on Marne Avenue about 10:30 p.m. During the stop, a passenger in that car, identified as Jonathan L. Jones, got out of the car, ran off and got into a vehicle nearby and tried to drive off, Lexington police Lt. Doug Pape said.

That vehicle struck Trippe in the knee and upper thigh, Pape said.

Police stopped that vehicle and arrested Jones on charges of wanton endangerment, second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, third-degree criminal trespassing, possession of marijuana and various traffic violations.

The driver of the first vehicle, Andreal A. Dorvie, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and driving with no insurance, Pape said.

Trippe was not seriously injured.
