The Pikeville College campus will be tobacco-free by fall of next year, officials announced Thursday. Smoking is already prohibited indoors, and starting in January, will be prohibited in all covered walkways and areas between buildings.
"We believe this policy will promote wellness and provide our students and employees with a safe and healthy environment," college President Paul Patton said in a press release. The policy has been endorsed by the college's board of trustees, and it's hoped to encourage employees to quit smoking, thus reducing absenteeism and health care costs.
