Charles Shearer, president of Transylvania University, will be the grand marshal of this year's Christmas parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Lexington.
The parade will begin at Midland Avenue and will travel up Main Street past Broadway and behind Triangle Park.
The parade is just part of a day filled with festivities downtown.
The annual Christmas tree lighting and a performance by the Lexington Singers will take place at Triangle Park after the parade.

The Holiday Market, featuring arts, crafts and food for sale, will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. in Triangle Park.
Victorian Square and the Shops at Lexington Center will hold open houses Friday with activities such as arts and crafts for children, musical performances and visits with Santa and Father Christmas.
The Hilton Lexington/Downtown will be serving hot apple cider and cocoa with whipped cream beginning at 4 p.m.
Since the city and the Downtown Lexington Corp. are encouraging parade-goers to wear lighted accessories to the parade, the Hilton will be giving away 300 glow necklaces.
