A man was taken to a hospital after fire broke out at 624 Addison Avenue in Lexington on Thursday night. Firefighters were called to the scene about 9:30 after getting calls about flames in the house, with the possibility of people trapped inside, Battalion Chief Brent Frizzell said. A neighbor helped the man get out before firefighters got there. A woman got out by herself.
The man and the woman were asleep when they heard their smoke detector go off, Frizzell said.
The fire appeared to have started in the front room of the single-story house. The front room was badly burned, while other rooms were damaged by smoke. The cause is under investigation, Frizzell said.
