A Lexington man involved in the fatal shooting of a former standout Henry Clay High School football player pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of felony gun possession and marijuana trafficking.
Deondrae Darnel Fishback, 20, was arrested Sept. 29 after police responded to a call about someone trying to break into a home at 623 Georgetown Street. Officers found Jermaine Birch, 22, with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police and coroner reports.
Birch, who graduated from Henry Clay in 2006, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fishback has not been charged in Birch's slaying. Investigators have said self-defense could come into play in the case.
