UPDATED | Slick roads blamed for crash that killed Laurel teen

Officials said slick roads are to blame for a single-vehicle accident that killed a teenager Sunday in Laurel County.

Carmen Howell, 17, was killed about 2 p.m. Sunday after her car slid 28 feet off the road and hit a tree on Ky. 490, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced Howell dead at the scene, said Sgt. Josh Gaylor of the Laurel County Sheriff's office.

Drugs and alcohol are not thought to have been a factor in the crash, Gaylor said.
