A 13-year-old Viper resident fatally shot himself Wednesday afternoon in what appeared to be an accident, Kentucky State Police said.
Police will not release his name, said Hazard state police spokesman Trooper Tony Watts. He said the boy was an avid hunter and was found outside on his family's Perry County property.
State police were called at 2:55 p.m. According to a release, the victim died from an accidental shot from a handgun. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Foul play is not suspected. The body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
