Sandy Shafer seeks to regain Lexington council seat

Former 10th District Urban County Councilwoman Sandy Shafer announced Thursday that she will try to get her job back.

The incumbent, Douglas Martin, also is running to hold onto the seat.

Shafer was elected to the council in 1994 and served 13 years. Facing a limit on consecutive terms in the district seat, she unsuccessfully sought an at-large seat in 2006.

Shafer, 53, owns and operates two coin laundry businesses with her husband. She is married to Paul Shafer, and the couple has four grown children.

Don Blevins Jr. ran unopposed for the 10th District seat in 2006 and 2008. Martin was appointed to the seat in January 2009 after Blevins left to become Fayette county clerk.
