Tom Blues seeks re-election to Lexington council

Second district councilman Tom Blues will seek re-election for a third term to the Urban County Council.

Blues served on task force that created a fee assessment to pay for repairing storm and sanitary sewers and committed the city to a massive water quality improvement program under the Environmental Quality consent decree.

He has also served on a task force looking at innovative redevelopment. "As a member of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Task Force we are focused on providing more affordable housing, especially in urbanized areas," he said, adding, "That has got to be a top priority."

Most of the Town Branch Trail, as well as the 9-mile Legacy Trail linking downtown to the Kentucky Horse Park, are in his district. "We have made significant progress building and connecting trails in our community, and I want to make sure that progress continues," he said.

Blues, 73, is a retired University of Kentucky English professor. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a master's degree and doctorate from the University of Iowa.
