George Myers to seek 4th term on Lexington council

George Myers will seek re-election to his fourth term representing the 8th District on Lexington's Urban County Council.

Myers has worked to improve parks in his district, securing more than $1 million for construction and maintenance, including $750,000 in state funds for Gainesway Community Park. He also led efforts to complete restoration of the Gainesway Pond, simultaneously improving water quality and recreational amenities.

"These projects have been a cornerstone of revitalization of the Centre Parkway area," he said.

He said an uncertain economy will continue to make balancing the city budget a challenge. "The council must examine each dollar spent with a critical eye to ensure it is justified and spent reasonably," he said.

Myers, 46, is married with two children. He is a graduate of Tates Creek High School, with a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
