One dead, three hurt in collisions on New Circle

The Fayette County coroner's office has released the name of a Lexington woman who was killed in a collision Tuesday night in which police said alcohol is a suspected factor.

Connie S. Layne, 40, was driving on the inner loop of New Circle Road about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when a gray Hyundai driven by Adam T. Leake, 24, of Lexington collided head-on with her car.

Police said Leake's car was going the wrong way on New Circle with its headlights off.

Leake's car sideswiped a car driven by Kelley Medley, 32, of Lexington, then collided with Layne's gold Suzuki Forenza. Layne was declared dead at the scene.

The force of the crash sent Leake's transmission and engine into the travel lanes of the outer loop of New Circle Road, where they hit a car driven by Chelsea Oliver, 24, of Lexington.

Leake, Medley and Oliver all suffered injuries. Leake was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital and was listed in fair condition Wednesday.

The crash occurred between Alumni Drive and Tates Creek Road. Everyone was wearing seat belts, police said.

According to Fayette District Court records, an Adam Leake, 24, was arrested on Jan. 1 for public intoxication. He paid a $204 fine for that arrest at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday, about 10 hours before the New Circle Road crash. He also was arrested for public intoxication in July 2009.

That Leake has previous traffic violations, court records show, including no insurance and operating a vehicle without a license. Court records showed no arrests for driving under the influence.

The accident was the second traffic fatality in Lexington in 2010.

On Monday, Etta C. Corbin, 67, of Lexington was killed when her car collided with a box truck on Georgetown Road.
