The mayor of Charleston, S.C., will be at the Lexington Public Library's downtown branch Wednesday speaking about smart city growth and historic preservation.
Joseph P. Riley Jr. has served as Charleston's mayor since 1975, currently serving his ninth term, according to a news release by the Fayette Alliance land use advocacy group.
Riley's time as mayor has seen improvements in crime rate, affordable housing and historic revitalization in Charleston during periods of population growth, the release says.
Riley will speak at 6 p.m. March 3 in the Lexington Public Library theatre, 140 East Main St. The event is free and open to the public.
