Scholarships await Cup winners

Students from several local elementary schools on Saturday won four-year college scholarships to Kentucky schools in the final event of the One Community, One Voice Academic Challenge. About 1,500 students competed in the Superintendent's Cup at Tates Creek High School.

Winners include:

Primary division (grades 2-3)

First place: Ashland Team B: Katrina Baniak, Dallas Care, Isaiah Mitchell, Hannah Shapiro and Ashvin Sial. They receive four-year scholarships to Kentucky State University.

Second place: Meadowthorpe Team F: Katie Chen, Indana Fauzi, BJ Kent Fesultary, Austin Li, and Helen Pang.

Third place: Maxwell Team I: Cole Blanchette, Seth Caise, Logan Florence, Isa Kessinger, and Annaya McClee.

Intermediate division (grades 4-5)

First place: Athens-Chilesburg Team A: Austin Booth, Princess Ewang, Jax Van Horn, Raymond Hukill, Clif Jackson, and Vincent LoPiccolo. They receive four-year scholarships to Morehead State University.

Second place: Meadowthorpe Team D: Zsombor Gal, Zaynab Khan, and Christian Lauritzen.

Third place: Julius Marks Team G: Megan Adams, Josh Baker, Amit Patel, Skyler Scott, and Logan Smith.

Individual competitions

Fifth grade math/science: Devynn Fergerson, Dixie; Allie Gregory, Maxwell; Cassidy Kemplin, Harrison; Allie Langdorf, Picadome; Alison Rickert, Lansdowne; and Trey Roberts, Julius Marks. They receive four-year scholarships to the University of Kentucky.

Fifth-grade writing: Maddie Covey, Athens-Chilesburg; Zaynab Khan, Meadowthorpe; Emily Liu, Rosa Parks; Maggie MacChesney, Julius Marks; Jasmine Segar, Northern; Natalina Vaccaro, Garden Springs. They receive four-year scholarships to Eastern Kentucky University. One-year scholarship winners to Bluegrass Community and Technical College: Hayley Miller, Deep Springs, and Ben Setlak, Cassidy.

Fourth-grade writing: John Felty, Dixie; Rohith Kesanaju, Meadowthorpe; Leslie Shannon, Cassidy; Meenakshi Singhal, Rosa Parks; Claire Telfer, Veterans Park; Anna-Claire Wright, Maxwell. They receive four-year scholarships to Georgetown College. Winner of one-year scholarship to BCTCS: Taleah Gipson, Northern.
