Lexington man indicted in New Circle Road crash

A 24-year-old Lexington man was indicted Monday on a wanton murder charge in connection with a crash that killed a woman on New Circle Road in January.

Adam T. Leake was also indicted on driving under the influence and two counts of fourth-degree assault.

Leake was driving the wrong way with his headlights off Jan. 19 when he hit a car driven by Connie S. Layne, 40, on the inner loop, police have said. Layne died at the scene.

Two other women were injured.

Police said Leake sideswiped a car driven by Kelley Medley, 32, of Lexington, before hitting Layne's vehicle head-on. The impact of the crash with Layne sent the transmission and engine from Leake's car into the lanes of the outer loop of New Circle, where they hit a car driven by Chelsea Oliver, 24, of Lexington, police said.
