Man asks officers to kill him, then dies in house fire, police say

A Prestonsburg man died after setting fire to his home Thursday afternoon, state police said.

Phillip Anthony Horn, 58, begged officers to kill him; after they refused, Horn ignited his Jack Arnett Branch Road home, according to a news release. Firefighters could not immediately respond because Horn had threatened to open fire on them, the release said.

Horn had recently told neighbors that he wanted to kill himself and burn his home, and he tried to borrow a handgun from his neighbor. Horn had an emergency protective order served against him, and Floyd County deputy sheriffs took about 20 firearms from him, according to the release.
