Central Ky. man ruled competent to stand trial in murder case

A Central Kentucky man facing murder and attempted murder charges, as well as a contempt charge for spitting in a judge's face, was ruled competent to stand trial Wednesday.

Bass Webb, 30, of Means appeared in Bourbon Circuit Court on Wednesday for a competency hearing. Webb is charged in the death of Bryia Runiewicz, 32, who was found dead July 31 in her Harrison County home. Investigators have said Webb confessed to killing Runiewicz after allegedly trying to run over two Bourbon County jail employees in July. A detective testified in court last year that Webb told police he cut off Runiewicz's head.

Webb has pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder related to the jail employees.

Webb is facing a contempt charge in Bourbon County for spitting on District Judge Vanessa Dickson during an arraignment on the attempted murder charges. Also, a Montgomery County grand jury indicted Webb last month on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Sabrina Marie Vaughn, who was reported missing in 2003.
