U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler announced Monday that a disaster declaration for recent flooding in Kentucky now includes Boyle, Franklin, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison and Mercer counties.
The declaration by President Obama on May 11 had only included Lincoln and Woodford counties in the Sixth Congressional District. In a letter to the president dated May 12, Chandler requested additional assistance.
The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management estimates at least $30 million in damage to public and private property because of the flooding. The declaration will release federal funds to help people in the Kentucky recover.
