Competency hearing to be held for man accused of killing ex-boyfriend

A competency hearing has been scheduled for a Lexington man accused of killing his ex-boyfriend at a shopping center last year.

Toby Ray Lasure, 33, is accused of shooting and killing Christopher Tolliver on March 5, 2009, in the parking lot of The Mall at Lexington Green off Nicholasville Road. He then led police on a high-speed chase.

Lasure is charged with murder, wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and fleeing or evading police.

During a hearing in Fayette Circuit Court Friday, Lasure's attorney, Kate Dunn, said a competency report for Lasure should be prepared by June 11. Judge Kimberly Bunnell set the hearing for June 23.

Lasure is scheduled to go on trial July 8.
