The doctors and nurses who volunteer for the Lexington non-profit organization Surgery on Sunday were featured on ABC World News as part of the "Person of the Week" segment Friday night.
The Surgery on Sunday program provides free outpatient surgeries one Sunday a month at the Lexington Surgery Center, which donates use of the facility.
Since the program was started in 2005, more than 325 doctors and nurses have provided free surgeries to more than 3,300 patients who can't afford health insurance but don't qualify for federal health care programs.
Dr. Andrew Moore II, a Lexington plastic and reconstructive surgeon, founded the organization.
