Police arrested a Lexington man Tuesday after he had apparently been letting his mother live in filth, according to a court document.
Vernon Harris, 59, was charged with knowing neglect of an adult, a felony, after his mother, whose name was not in the document, was found living in his home on Pasadena Drive in filthy conditions, according to the documents.
Police were first alerted to the situation when Harris's mother was taken to the hospital this month and was found to have feces on most parts of her body, according to the document.
Harris told police at the time that he is his mother's caretaker and she is left alone from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, according to the document. He also said she had not been bathed in a month.

On Tuesday, detectives followed up and found his mother alone in her bed, according to the documents. She had still not been bathed and sheets with piles of feces had not been changed. She had no food except for an old piece of bread and crackers near her bed.
A preliminary hearing for Harris is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday in Fayette County District Court.
