Officer assaulted during traffic stop, Lexington police say

Lexington police said an officer was assaulted Thursday morning after making a traffic stop.

Devonte L. Webb, 20, has been charged with second-degree assault, criminal trespassing, first-degree fleeing and evading, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.

The officer's name was not released Thursday morning.

Police said Webb was pulled over at Winchester Road and Walton Avenue about 12:25 a.m.

As the officer tried to put Webb in handcuffs, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said, Webb began resisting, striking the officer in the forehead.

Webb ran and climbed a barbed-wire fence in the 700 block of Winchester Road. Canine units tracked Webb down.

Webb and the officer were treated at scene for minor injuries.
